Bankers' strike on ThursdayWork in banks will be paralysed on Thursday, May 11, as over 700,000 employees are striking work against the policies of privatisation and globalisation. The strike call has been given by the All India Bank Employees' Association to its constituent members including the foreign banks, senior AIBEA office bearer Ashok Gupta said today. Besides opposing privatisation in the banking industry, bank unions are also blaming the top managements and the government for a whopping Rs 580 billion locked in the non-performing assets. They are also opposing introduction of voluntary retirement schemes in banks. Employees of many other public sector companies will also strike work. Many of the national trade unions are joining the nationwide strike. UNI
