L&T founder Holck-Larsen honouredDenmark's Henning Holck-Larsen, co-founder (along with Soren Kristian Toubro) and chairman emeritus, Larsen & Toubro Limited, was honoured by the Confederation of Indian Industry in Bombay today. Holck-Larsen was presented a silver plaque on the occasion by Arun Bharat Ram, president of the CII. Among the speakers who lauded Hoick-Larsen's achievements were Pradeep Mallick, chairman, CII (western region), A M Naik, managing director, L&T and Ram of the CII. In his tribute, Naik said, "Holck-Larsen has been a visionary par excellence. He had aready visualised today's buzzwords a few decades ago, covering recruitment and promotion by merit, development of indigenous know-how and capability, export promotion and a high rate of re-investment of surplus to sustain a rapid rate of growth." Holck-Larsen along with his former classmate Toubro, had set up L&T as a partnership in 1938 for importing Danish dairy equipment, operating from a small room in Ballard Estate, Bombay. L&T has since grown into a premier engineering and construction company in India largely due to Holck-Larsen's vision which was always in tune with the country's national goal of self-reliance in industry.
