Market@6 March: Day's report

Infosys, ITC and MTNL remain in upper circuit. Software stocks show a strong close, but HLL, Reliance and SBI close weak.

Sensex gains 144 points at 5522. Nifty closes 33 points higher at 1689.

Thanks to a strong opening by Infosys, ITC, MTNL and some other pivotals, the Sensex opened very strong, and remained firm for a major part of the day. However, selling pressure in counters like HLL, Reliance, and SBI during the second half of the day affected the closing. Software stocks remained strong throughout the day. Cyclicals were also in good demand.
