PM to address business meet in PortugalPrime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will address a special plenary session at the EU-India Business Summit, to be held on June 27, 2000 in Lisbon, Portugal. The business summit is being held as a precursor to the EU-India Summit. The Prime Minister is expected to speak at length about India's economic reform progamme and the directions it will take in the future. Other government speakers at the business summit will be Murasoli Maran, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Yashwant Sinha, Minister of Finance and Pramod Mahajan, Minister of Information Technology. Investment and trade promotion efforts by ministers will be supplemented by representatives of the private sector, who will be conducting sectoral workshops during the business summit. Four sectoral sessions will be conducted on Infrastructure (ports, roads, airports, power, railways) by K N Shenoy, chairman, CII Infrastructure Council and chairman, ABB Limited; Information Technology and Telecom by Rajendra Powar, chairman, CII National Information Committee and chairman, NIIT Limited; Pharmaceuticals, Biotech and R&D by Ajay Piramal, chairman, CII National Technology Committee and chairman, Nicholas Piramal India Limited; and Financial Services by K V Kamath, chairman, CII Services Sector Council and CEO, ICICI Limited. These sectoral sessions have been organised as a opportunity for potential investors to gain first hand information from corporates who are already functioning in India, and to also explore opportunities for cooperation between the private sectors in India and the EU.
