Top Indian team for US to discuss biz issuesA high-powered 52-member Indian delegation will participate in the silver jubilee celebrations of the Indo-US Joint Business Council and its counterpart, the US India Business Council, being held from June 11-16. Shashi Ruia, chairman, Indo-US Joint Business Council, along with Sunil Mittal, co-chairman of the council, will lead the delegation. Major issues regarding power and fuel supply, financial services, trade and investment, chemicals and petrochemicals, telecommunications and transportation are expected to be discussed at the concurrent roundtable sessions. The issue of reforms of state electricity boards and making them financially viable and privatising distribution is high on the agenda of power sector. The other areas that are likely to be discussed in this sector are model tariff structure, commercial utilisation and technology development of the energy sector and ground level reforms, a statement said. Ram Jethmalani, Union Minister for Law, Justice and Company Affairs, will deliver the keynote address on 'Legal Restructuring and Companies Bill: Its effect on growth and development of business in India in a global matrix'. Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister for Communications, besides senior officials like finance secretary P G Mankad, and Telecom Commission chairman Shyamal Ghosh will also address the meet. The two-day deliberations at San Francisco will be attended by over 200 US corporates, some of which are Chubb Corporation, AIG Arthur Andersen, Deloitte and Touche, Enron, Corning, Xerox Corporation, Lucent Technology, PepsiCo, Unocal and Merrill Lynch. The delegation will also be visiting Compaq, Sun Microsystems, Boeing and Microsoft to get a feel of the latest technology and discuss issues of common interest. UNI
