Indian, English firms tie up to boost bilateral trade

Two Indo-UK collaboration agreements were signed under the new Global Enterprise Initiative of the Indo-British Partnership in the presence of Stephen Byers, the UK's secretary of state for trade and industry on Tuesday.

Antec International, a leader in biocidal hygiene products, signed a distribution agreement with Vishal Surgical Equipment Company covering Andhra Pradesh and other southern states. Vishal Surgical will market Antec's biosecurity products Virkon and Perasafe.

The agreement was signed by Arthur Gallagher, regional sales director, Antec and Ashok Kapoor, Vishal Surgical.

Another agreement was signed by Neil Vass, managing director, Gemini Dataloggers and O Snehal Nagarsheth, managing director, Giriraj Associates, based in Vadodara, Gujarat. Gemini is a market leader in miniature battery-powered datalogging equipment for the food, pharmaceutical and environment sectors.

The two companies planned to set up a new Vadodara-based company Gemini Dataloggers India, funded from the UK on a decreasing basis as the company becomes established.

Gemini would part-own the business and share in its profits. "With the Indian government placing increased emphasis on cold chain technology, the time is right for a dramatically increased presence," the representatives of the two companies observed.

Both Gemini and Antec were part of a pathfinder team from the UK government's British Trade International that visited Hyderabad in October 1999. The visit was part of a larger programme in India, with a pilot mission to Andhra Pradesh as a focus state in south India.

The agreements signed were a result of the discussions held since. Andhra Pradesh is one of the six progressive states targetted by the new Global Enterprise Initiative under the Indo-British Partnership announced by Byers during his visit.
