No roll-back in price-hike, says BJP

Email this report to a friend

The Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, today categorically said that the government has not made any assurance to roll back the price hike of essential commodities supplied through the public distribution system, or PDS.

Party spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu said the total debt burden of the government was Rs 10.34 trillion. Of this debt servicing alone accounts for Rs 1.24 trillion and the oil pool deficit is Rs 163 billion. It was a grave situation and the nation needed to be kept posted, he said.

Naidu said the decision to withdraw subsidies was a ''painful but unavoidable one'' in the interest of the nation.
