Email this report to a friend

A Delhi court today directed liquor baron Vijay Mallya to appear before the Enforcement Directorate, or ED, tomorrow in connection with a case of Foreign Exchange Regulations Act, or FERA, violation.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sangita Dhingra Sehgal passed the order after Mallya appeared before her and surrendered his passport.

Mallya is facing charges of not responding to the summons of the ED relating to the money paid in foreign countries for display of his company's advertisements there.

He was earlier granted bail in the case and permitted to go abroad from April 3-24, but with the rider that he would lose his deposit of Rs 200,000 unless he surrendered his passport on return.
