Market@3 April: Day's report

Old economy stocks opened firm and attracted strong buying. Cement stocks remained the star perfomers of the day. HLL, ITC hit the upper circuit and helped the sensex to post a smart gain. The software sector however opened dull and came under strong selling pressure. All top software stocks remained at the lower circuit for major part of the day.

Reliance Industries, Zee Tele, Satyam Computers, Global Tele, and Infosys topped the volume charts accounting for nearly 49 per cent of total trading volume on the BSE. Reliance Industries volume touched a two-month high accounting for 19 per cent of total traded volume on the BSE.

Sensex up 52 points at 5055, Nifty gains 3 points at 1531.

Stocks at lower circuit
Infosys, Himachal Futuristic, Global Tele, Reliance Capital, Sterlite, Zee Tele, BSES, Pentamedia, Satyam Compter, DSQ Soft, Digital Equipment, NIIT, Rolta, Silverline, GNFC, M&M, GV Films, SSI, Aptech, SQL Star, Max India, Orient Info, TV 18, LCC Info and Sri Adhikari.

Stocks up over 5 per cent
Bhel, SBI, ITC, Voltas, Cipla, Grasim, India Cements, Cochin Ref, Corporation Bank, Carrier Aircon, IDBI Bank, MRF, Kesoram, ICI India, Kreb Biochem, Indswift, Toubro Industries, Vashisti Detergent, Nilkamal Plastics, Spic and Omax Auto.

Stocks down over 5 per cent
Wipro, HDFC Bank, Tata Elxsi, Sun Pharma, Filmcity Media, Cyberspace, MP Tele, Apar Ind, Usha Beltron, NELCO, PCS, Tata Finance, Mastek, Vimal Oil and Modi Xerox.
