Share prices suffer moderate losses on selling pressure
Share prices suffered moderate losses on selling pressure on the last day of the current settlement cycle at the National Stock Exchange which witnessed the highest ever volume of trading today. The NSE witnessed a record number of trades of 4,57,535 today. The turnover stood at Rs 3,293.50 crore which involved 1,273.47 lakh shares. Debentures were traded for Rs 10.69 lakh. Mirroring the subdued sentiment, the CNX Nifty eased by 10.35 points to 1379.15 points from 1389.50 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior fell sharply by 60.55 points to 2734.65 points from 2795.20 points, while the SP CNX Defty declined by 8.25 points to 1096.75 points. SP CNX 500 Index and CNX Midcap 200 also drifted lower by 7.95 points and 8.70 points to 1007.20 points and 934.55 points respectively. About 706 securities declined, 436 advanced while 61 remained unchanged. The top SP CNX Nifty losers were: Cipla which declined by 5.85 per cent to Rs 3965.10 from Rs 4211.65, NIIT 5.67 per cent to Rs 2624.65 (2782.50), HDFC 4.78 per cent to Rs 275.60 (289.45), M&M 3.96 per cent to Rs 345.55 (359.80) and Satyam Computers 3.92 per cent to Rs 1052.80 (1095.70). The top gainers were: Gujarat Ambuja Cement which firmed up by 4.95 per cent to Rs 501 from Rs 477.35, Reliance 4.50 per cent to Rs 225.15 (215.45), Bajaj Auto 4.08 per cent to Rs 452.50 (434.75) L&T 2.43 per cent to Rs 356.55 (348.10) and TVS Suzuki 2.42 per cent to Rs 722.35 (705.30). Reliance registered the highest turnover of Rs 379.08 cr, followed by Zee Telefilms 296.89 cr, Satyam Computers 262.32 cr, Ranbaxy 255.75 cr, Pentafour Software 178.81 cr and Silver Line 160.89 cr. The other actively traded counters were: Global Tele 121.20 cr, Sbin 91.27 cr, ITC 90.57 cr, Infosys Technology 85.85 cr, L&T 84.83 cr, Digital Equipment 67.60 cr and ACC 64.93 cr. The wholesale debt market of NSE witnessed total trades worth Rs 830.80 crore and the turnover in corporate debentures stood at 202.04 lakh. UNI |
