Kargil Effect: Equities crash, Nifty nosedives 44 points to 1091.45Equities crashed further at the National Stock Exchange due to increased tension on the Indo-Pak border, following India's air-strikes in the Kargil area for the second day today and reported shooting down of two Indian jet fighters by Pakistan. The S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1132.85 points, touched the day's high of 1147.95, a low of 1091.45 points, before closing at 1091.45 points, showing a net loss of 44.05 points as against the previous close of 1135.50 points. The CNX Nifty Junior fell sharply by 57.95 points to 1934.00 points from the previous close of 1991.95 points. Today, 286 securities advanced, 645 declined, 92 remained unchanged while 42 securities hit their price bands amidst volatile trading on the NSE. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 21.61 billion which came from a trading of 78.08 million shares in 288,659 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.42 million. Meanwhile, the S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 39.85 points to 878.75 points from the previous close of 918.60 points. The CNX-500 and CNX Midcap-200 eased by 23.94 and 15.92 points to 751.89 and 659.05 points as against the previous close of 775.83 and 674.97 points respectively. UNI
