The CNX Nifty Junior Index jumped up by 34.05 pints to 1953.70
points from 1919.65 points while the S&P CNX Defty appreciated by
25.65 points to 887.45 points from 861.80 points.
The S&P CNX 500 Index moved up by 18.34 points to 755.44 points from 737.10 points
and CNX Midcap 200 index firmed up by 15.02 points to 653.70 points
from 638.68 points.
Total turnover, involving 74.17 million shares in 284,085 trades, was
Rs 20.57 billion and debentures traded were valued at Rs 6.37 million.
About 586 securities advanced, 396 declined, 67 remained
unchanged while 109 securities hit their price bands today.
The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Arvind Mills which shot up by
8.03 per cent to Rs 29.60 from Rs 27.40, Indian Rayon to Rs 96.15 (Rs
89), Tisco to Rs 106.95 (Rs 99), Grasim to Rs 160.35 (Rs 148.45) and East India
Hotels to Rs 197.55 (Rs 182.90).
The top losers were: Cipla which slid to Rs 1,320 from Rs 1,348,
Mahindra and Mahindra to Rs 239 from Rs 244, NIIT to Rs 1172.90 from Rs 1792,
Infosys Technologies to Rs 3220 from Rs 3250 and TVS Suzuki to Rs 485 from
Rs 487.
Tobacco giant ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.23 billion, followed by Ranbaxy Rs 1.83 billion, Pentafour Software Rs 1.79 billion, Satyam Computers Rs 1.63 billion, SBI Rs 1.42 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 1.14 billion, Reliance Rs 988.3 million, L&T 780.3 million, ACC Rs 576 million, Silverline Rs 497.9 million, Rolta Rs 475.3 million, Tisco Rs 451.4 million and Tata Tea Rs 412 million.
The other actively traded counters were: MTNL Rs 403.2 million, Digital Equipment
Rs 382.2 million, Hindustan Lever Rs 360.7 million, Glaxo Rs 274.8 million, Telco Rs 258.7 million,
Sterlite Rs 234.1 million, HCL-HP Rs 231.9 million, BPL Rs 218.7 million, Infosys Technologies Rs 214.9
million, Raymond Rs 195.9 million, Castrol Rs 191.6 million and BHEL Rs 158.7 million.
