Equities flare up further; Nifty up 11 points to 1019.55 points

Pivotals further flared up on continued buying support from financial institutions and bull operators on the opening day of the current settlement at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 11.20 points to 1019.55 points from 1008.36 points the previous day.

The CNX Nifty Junior appreciated by 14.05 points to 1876.80 points from 1862.75 points while S&P CNX Defty improved by 9.35 points to 826.75 points.

The S&P CNX 500 index moved up by 11.42 points to 714.36 from 702.94 while the CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 5.89 points to 626.48 points from 620.59 points of the previous day.

Total turnover, involving 82.03 million shares in 303,713 trades was Rs 24.13 billion.

About 661securities gained, 276 declined, 65 remained unchanged while 82 shares hit their price bands today.

Top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: SBI which shot up to Rs 182.70 from 169.15, Grasim Rs 127.25 (118), Infosys Technologies Rs 2,940 (2755), Reliance Petroleum Rs 20.25 (19) and Ranbaxy Rs 661 (623).

Top losers were: TVS Suzuki which eased by 4.47 per cent to Rs 468.10 (490), Colgate 3.65 per cent to Rs 203.30, Telco 3.64 per cent to Rs 140.50, Hindustan Petroleum 3.52 per cent to Rs 192 and Tisco 3.21 per cent to Rs 95.10.

Pentafour Software registered the highest turnover of Rs 3.61 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 2.46 billion, ITC Rs 2.31 billion, Ranbaxy Rs 1.81 billion, Reliance Rs 1.70 billion, SBI Rs 1.64 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 896.2 billion, Digital Equipment Rs 769 million, Silverline Rs 746.9 million, ACC Rs 682.1 million, L&T Rs 666.6 million, HCL-HP Rs 500.6 million and BPL Rs 380.2 million.

The other actively traded counters were: Infosys Technologies Rs 370 million, Tata Tea Rs 340 million, Rolta Rs 320 million, MTNL Rs 300 million, Hindustan Lever Rs 240 million, Global Telesystems Rs 210 million and NIIT Rs 190 million.
