Prices rise as settlement ends! Nifty up ten points to 1072.95

Share prices gained further at the National Stock Exchange on good buying support from foreign institutional investors and local operators, in spite of the last day of trading settlement today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1063.95 points, touched the day's high of 1079.85, touched the day's low of 1063.90 points, before closing at 1072.95 points, showing a net gain 9.95 points, as against the previous close of 1063.00 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior closed higher by 3.65 points to 2006.40 points from the previous close of 2002.75 points.

The S&P CNX Defty rose by 8.20 points to 877.00 points as against the previous close of 868.80 points.

The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap-200 gained by 2.16 and 1.80 points to 751.95 and 682.86 points as against the previous close of 749.79 and 681.06 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 30.508 billion from 109.45 million shares in 362,262 trades. Debentures traded were valued at 10.18 million.

Today, 594 securities advanced, 541 declined, 75 remained unchanged while 150 securities hit their price bands.

Among the top 25 securities, Satyam Computers registered the highest turnover of Rs 4.94 billion, followed by Pentafour Software Rs 4.202 billion, Silverline Rs 2.59 billion, ITC Rs 2.016 billion, SBI Rs 1.60 billion, Rolta Rs 1.21 billion and Tata Tea Rs 1.16 billion.

Other actively traded counters were Ranbaxy (Rs 901.5 million), HCL-HP (Rs 779.2 million), Reliance (Rs 746 million), ACC (Rs 550 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 541.5 million), Infosys Technologies (Rs 499.3 million), L&T (Rs 433.7 million), Square D Software (Rs 425.7 million), NIIT (Rs 399.7 million), Global Telesystems (Rs 338.8 million), MTNL (Rs 334.8 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 332 million), Glaxo (Rs 318.9 million), Telco (Rs 312.5 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 236.8 million), Sterlite (Rs 215.7 million), BHEL (Rs 190.8 million) and BPL (Rs 173.8 million).

The top gainers were NIIT Rs 1998 (Rs 1850), Telco Rs 180.90 (Rs 167.50), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 300 (Rs 279.50), ACC Rs 1405 (Rs 1332).

The top losers were ICICI Rs 46 (Rs 48), Tata Chemicals Rs 73.50 (Rs 76.30), Infosys Tech Rs 2790 (Rs 2884), Bank of India Rs 20 (Rs 20.65) and ITC Rs 949 (979.50).
