Hitachi Home Electronics Asia Limited, a Singapore-based subsidiary of $ 63.8 billion Hitachi group of Japan, has entered into a comprehensive agreement with Baron International of Bombay for the marketing, sales and distribution of Hitachi brand of audio-visual products in India.

The agreement will be effective with the arrival of the first batch of colour televisions in the first week of April this year.

Kabir Mulchandani, managing director of Baron International, said today that his company would launch a mega campaign before the cricket World Cup in May to offer the large size Hitachi TV at Rs 40,000, unlike other companies that sell similar sized TVs at Rs 100,000.

Hitachi colour TVs are manufactured in eight factories the world over from where components would be supplied to Baron International for assembling at its plant near Baroda.

Hitachi Electronics managing director M Matsunaga said that the Hitachi group had been operating in India for the past 25 years and was actively participating in various infrastructure-related projects such as power generation plant, railways, locomotive and steel plants.

Now the company is entering into India with its electronics products while its parent group is set to diversify into sophisticated information technology industry the world over. ''We are aiming to provide solutions like home multimedia station to enrich human life,'' he added.
