Pivotals drift lower after good start; Nifty eases 12 points to 1063

Pivotals, after opening higher, gradually drifted lower and suffered moderate losses towards close on heavy off-loading by bull operators and financial institutions at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the low-sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty eased by 11.70 points to 1062.90 points as against 1074.60 points of the previous day.

The CNX Nifty Junior slid by 39.05 points to 1984.30 points from 2023.35 points and S&P CNX Defty ended 9.10 points lower at 868.60 points. S&P CNX 500 index moved down by 8.81 points to 746.46 points while CNX Midcap 200 declined by 9.60 points to 675.09 points.

Total turnover in 287,413 trades, involving 84.06 million shares, was Rs 24.01 billion. The debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.14 million.

Today, about 545 securities advanced, 538 declined and 74 remained unchanged while 148 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers included Ranbaxy which improved by 3.29 per cent to Rs 617, MTNL 1.21 per cent to Rs 163.75, SBI New 1.04 per cent to Rs 228.50, Tata Chem 0.91 per cent to Rs 82.75 and ACC 0.82 per cent to Rs 1235.

The top losers were NIIT which declined by 6.39 per cent to Rs 1984.50, Arvind Mills 5.76 per cent to Rs 32.75, IFCI 5.53 per cent to Rs 11.10, IPCL 4.82 per cent to Rs 111.50 and Hindustan Petroleum 4.60 per cent to Rs 188.80.

Pentafour Software registered the highest turnover of Rs 4.09 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 3.74 billion, SBI Rs 2.52 billion, ITC Rs 1.59 billion, Reliance Rs 1.04 billion, Ranbaxy Rs 928.5 million, Silverline Rs 827.6 million, Tata Tea Rs 688.6 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 500.7 million, HCL-HP Rs 472 million, Rolta Rs 454.8 million, Digital Equipment Rs 396.8 million and Infosys Technologies Rs 374.4 million.

The other actively traded counters were: L&T Rs 325.7 million, MTNL Rs 321.6 million, NIIT Rs 304 million, Square D Software Rs 295.2 million, ACC Rs 294.4 million, BPL Rs 225.7 million, Global Telesystems Rs 211.6 million, Sterlite Rs 187.9 million, Glaxo Rs 175 million, Himachal Futuristics Rs 170.6 million, Telco Rs 162.2 million and Bajaj Auto 145.1 million.
