Pivotal close marginally higher; Nifty edges up to 1073.95After moving in a narrow range, pivotals closed marginally higher on buying support at the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty edged up by 1.30 points to 1073.95 points from 1072.65 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior rose by 28.10 points to 1984.05 points from 1955.95 points while the S&P CNX Defty inched up by 1.45 points to 877.30 points. The S&P CNX 500 improved by 4.08 points to 746.99 points and CNX Midcap 200 appreciated by 5.61 points to 664.86 points. About 453 securities advanced, 642 declined and 100 remained steady. And 89 scrips hit their price bands today. Among the top Nifty gainers, Ranbaxy shot up by 8.01 per cent to Rs 530.20, SBI by 3.95 per cent to Rs 230.30, P&G by 2.69 per cent to Rs 1010, Hero Honda by 2.52 per cent to Rs 822 and Hindalco by 1.96 per cent to Rs 407.90. The top losers were IFCI which declined by 6.03 per cent to Rs 10.90, East India Hotels by 4.11 per cent to Rs 210, Hindustan Petroleum by 3.79 per cent to Rs 181.60, Indian Rayon by 3.75 per cent to Rs 77 and Reliance Capital by 3.47 per cent to Rs 30.60.
