PM inaugurates work on two power projects in Bihar

Email this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today laid the foundation stone for two mega power projects being constructed by National Thermal Power Corporation, at North Karanpura, 100 km from Vananchal, and Barh in Patna district respectively.

The two projects have a capacity of 4,000 mega-watts and are expected to boost economic development of Bihar, including that of Vananchal.

Besides helping Bihar to overcome its acute power shortage, the two projects will provide power to other states through the National Power Grid.

Fuel for the projects -- ten million tonnes annually -- will be provided from the North Karanpura oilfields.

The two areas, Karanpura and Barh, have been identified for implementation of the two projects by the state-owned NTPC as part of the power ministry's policy for mega power projects.
