FIs spur equities' upsurge; Nifty up 13 points, 1054.45 points
Equities bounced back on buying support from foreign institutional investors and domestic institutions at the National Stock Exchange today. Brokers said that shifting of positions from the Bombay Stock Exchange, whose current trading cycle ended today, aided the uptrend. The S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1043.45 points, touched the day's high of 1061.40 points, fell to the day's low of 1033.80 points before closing at 1054.45 points, showing a net gain of 13.25 points from the previous close of 1041.20 points. The CNX Nifty Junior firmed by 27.25 points to 1907.35 points from the previous close of 1880.10 points. S&P CNX Defty rose by 10.60 points to 859.25 from the previous close of 848.65 points. The S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap-200 indices also closed higher by 8.20 and 5.95 points to 727.96 and 645.43 points respectively. The turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 30.47 billion from trading in 107.7 million shares in 351,084 trades. The debentures traded were valued at 4.16 million. Today, 574 securities advanced, 499 declined, 101 scrips remained unchanged and 72 securities hit their price bands today. UNI
