FII-supported market remains firm; pivotals spurt; Nifty up 36 points to 1051.85
The National Stock Exchange witnessed buoyant conditions today as pivotals posted handsome gains on heavy buying support from foreign institutional investors, domestic funds and speculators. Mirroring the firm trend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened at 1066.40 points, touched the day's high of 1073.05 points, low of 1051.80, before closing at 1051.85 points, showing a net gain of 36.05 points from the previous close of 1015.80 points. The CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 50.40 points to 1903.20 points from the previous close of 1852.80 points. The S&P CNX Defty closed higher by 29.10 points as against the previous close of 828.45 points. The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap 200 rose by 22.55 and 14.90 points to 730.39 and 651.26 points from the previous close of 707.84 and 636.36 points respectively. The market witnessed a total turnover of Rs 28.95 billion from trading in 120.32 million shares from 348,771 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.30 million. Today, 775 scrips advanced, 331 declined and 86 remained unchanged while 224 securities hit their price bands. ITC posted the highest turnover at Rs 5.35 billion among the top 25 securities, followed by Reliance Rs 2.53 billion, Satyam Computers Rs 2.36 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.53 billion and Pentafour Software Rs 1.32 billion.
