Casio adds wrist watches to its product line-up for India

Email this report to a friend

Casio India has launched 276 models of wrist watches for the Indian market, widening its existing product portfolio of pagers, digital diaries, calculators and label printers.

The move came yesterday when it got approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to manufacture and market digital wrist watches. The Indian market size for such products is estimated to be worth Rs 5 billion.

''We are confident of changing the Indian customer's perception of buying such multi-functional utility watches,'' said Yuji Tagami, managing director of Casio India Company Limited.

Initially, he said, the watches will be imported from Casio's manufacturing facilities abroad. Casio's G-shock, baby-G-data bank and multi-functional watches costing between Rs 2,500 and 3,500 will comprise the range at present. Later, a select range will be decided for manufacturing in India.

''Eventually when the manufacturing starts here, we will start exporting to neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka,'' Tagami said.
