Bears rule the day at NSE
The market opened with a sharp decline at the National Stock Exchange and continued to remain depressed during the trading session. It recovered towards the end, but finished lower than the previous close today. Mirroring the bearish phase, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1140.75 points (the day's high), fell below the 1100-mark to touch the day's low of 1099.85 points, before closing at 1126.90 points, down from the previous close of 1141.90 points. The CNX Junior index fell sharply by 47.35 points, to 1914.00, as against the previous close of 1961.35 points. The CNX Defty ended lower by 13.95 points, at 904.95, as against Friday's close of 918.90 points. The CNX-500 and Midcap-200 closed lower by 12.85 and 15.25 points, at 769.55 and 663.70 from the previous close of 782.40 and 678.95 points respectively. The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 1391.13 crore, from a trading of 710.16 lakh shares in 2,40,582 trades. The value of debentures traded stood at Rs 38.23 lakh. The exchange witnessed 143 securities advances, 788 declined and 53 remaining unchanged, while 77 securities hit their price bands today, a NSE release stated. UNI |
