Upbeat sentiment continues on FII and bulls' support; Nifty up 18 points to 1155.05

Share prices further firmed up on continued buying support from foreign institutional investors and bull operators, at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the positive sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 18.40 points to 1155.05 points from 1136.65 points of the previous day. CNX Nifty Junior edged up by 4.40 points to 1965.45 points from 1961.05 points while the S&P CNX Defty appreciated by 14.80 points to 932.10 points.

S&P CNX 500 improved by 9.82 points to 786.69 points from 776.87 points and CNX Midcap 200 moved up by 7.02 points to 676.73 points from 669.71 points of the previous day.

NSE witnessed a total turnover of Rs 20.30 billion, involving 93.23 million shares in 299,347 trades. The debenture traded value stood at Rs 1.46 million.

Today, 596 shares gained, 343 declined, 90 remained unchanged while 62 securities hit their price bands.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Tata Power which shot up by 8.05 per cent to Rs 83.20 from Rs 77, Indian Rayon 8.04 per cent to Rs 99.40 (92), Tisco 8.02 per cent to Rs 119.90 (111), Telco 5.82 per cent to Rs 200 (189) and Tata Chemicals 5.41 per cent to Rs 66.25 (62.85).

The top losers were: Ranbaxy which slid by 2.31 per cent to Rs 612.50 from Rs 627, Glaxo 2.13 per cent to Rs 738 (754.05), NIIT 1.14 per cent to Rs 1,830 (1851.05), Nestle 0.88 per cent to Rs 562 (567) and HDFC Bank 0.65 per cent to Rs 77 (77.50).

Reliance registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.26 billion, followed by SBI Rs 2.17 billion, Satyam Computers Rs 2.16 billion, ITC Rs 1.79 billion, L&T Rs 1.32 billion, Ranbaxy Rs 971.4 million, Pentafour Software Rs 835 million, Telco Rs 766.4 million, Tisco Rs 746.5 million, ACC Rs 636.9 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 518.3 million, MTNL Rs 412.8 million, Silverline Rs 385.3 million.

The other actively traded counters were: Tata Tea Rs 329 million, Infosys Technologies Rs 300.5 million, Raymond Rs 273.7 million, Square D Software Rs 256.1 million, ICICI Rs 254.1 million, BPL Rs 238.8 million, Sterlite Rs 218.3 million, BPL Rs 185.2 million, Rolta Rs 177.4 million, Castrol Rs 158.2 million, Grasim Rs 153.7 million and Hindustan Petroleum Rs 136.9 million.
