Upbeat sentiment continues on FII support; Nifty up 11 points to 1136.63
Pivotals continued their rally and further firmed up on buying support from foreign institutional investors and local operators at the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the upbeat sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 11.50 points to 1136.65 points from 1125.15 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior improved by 15.40 points to 1961.05 points from 1945.65 points while the S&P CNX Defty improved by 9.15 points to 917.30 points. S&P CNX 500 index appreciated by 8.44 points to 776.87 points and CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 5.72 points to 669.71 points. NSE witnessed a total turnover of Rs 17.55 billion in 263,548 trades involving 84.10 million shares. The debentures traded were valued at 1.61 million today. About 567 securities advanced, 371 declined, 94 remained unchanged while 51 securities hit their price bands today. The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: L&T which shot up by 8.02 per cent to Rs 261.40 from Rs 242, ICICI 8 per cent to Rs 74.25 (68.75), Hindustan Petroleum 6.57 per cent to Rs 245.10 (230), ACC 4.17 per cent to Rs 185 (177.60) and Grasim 4.17 per cent to Rs 175 (168). The top losers were: Ranbaxy which eased by 1.72 per cent to Rs 627 from Rs 638, Smithkline Beecham to Rs 605 (614), Indian Hotel Company Rs 330 (334.15), IFCI Rs 12.60 (12.70) and Nestle Rs 567 (571).
