Jalan Distributors, one of the largest distributors of Maruti vehicles in East India, has launched its own Website. The move is as much to make car-buying convenient as it is to stay ahead of new competitors.

Very few car dealers in India have full-fledged Websites. Prospective buyers can now easily obtain information required to make a wise decision, said Rohtash Mal, Maruti Udyog Limited's chief general manager (marketing and sales).

Mal said all the 185 dealers and 400 vendors of MUL are linked with the regional offices through e-mails and V-SATs and within the next couple of months a few more distributors would be linked directly to the factory through Websites.

He claimed that Maruti's share in the national market continued to register growth and till the last quarter, a segment comprising Maruti 800s and Omni's registered a growth of 18 per cent.

In eastern India, the growth of Maruti vehicles stood at around 53 per cent on quarterly basis, he said.

With the availability of retail financing, there is a resurgent demand for MUL products. MUL may enter auto financing in order to improve sales, he disclosed.

Mal said the government is yet to clarify as to what Euro-II norms stand for. In a recent affidavit to the Supreme Court, the government stated that there are some manufacturers claiming, in a misleading way, to be Euro-II compliant.
