Equities decline moderately on profit sales; Nifty sheds 35 points to 1314.70
Share prices declined moderately on selling pressure and profit-taking by bull operators, on the last day of the current settlement, at the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty shed 34.90 points or was down 2.58 per cent to 1314.70 points from 1349.60 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior Index also fell by 39.70 points to 2129.20 points from 2168.90 points whie the S&P CNX Defty slid by 28 points to 1054.20 points from 1082.20 points. The S&P CNX 500 index moved down by 21.05 points to 900.40 points from 921.45 points and CNX Midcap 200 eased by 14.45 points to 768.85 points from 783.30 points. About 833 securities declined, 278 gained, 57 remained unchanged while 77 scrips hit their price bands today. Total turnover in 372,117 trades, involving 114.69 million shares, was Rs 27.97 billion. Turnover in debentures was Rs 7.22 million. The top S&P CNX Nifty losers were: Infosys Technologies which slid by 7.98 per cent to Rs 5065.85 from Rs 5505.45, NIIT 7.86 per cent to Rs 2125.10 (2306.40), IFCI 7.72 per cent to Rs 13.15 (14.25), East Indian Hotel 7.26 per cent to Rs 211.50 (228.05) and Bank of India 7.04 per cent to Rs 21.80 (23.45). The top gainers were: Cipla which shot up by 6.77 per cent to Rs 1924.15 from Rs 1802.10, Hindustan Lever 2.42 per cent to Rs 2511.65 (2452.25), Novartis 1.26 per cent to Rs 1064.85 (1051.55), Nestle 1.07 per cent to Rs 568.80 (562.80) and Hero Honda 0.56 per cent to Rs 1249.50 (1242.60).
