Talks resume in Delhi for Indo-Pak power deal

Talks between India and Pakistan to work out the technical details for import of power from Pakistan began in New Delhi today.

Power Minister P R Kumaramangalam said a memorandum of understanding had already been drawn up in this connection. Price and other details were to be worked out at the current round. He hoped the talks would be cordial and fruitful.

The Pakistani delegation to the talks, led by water and power ministry secretary Syed Shahid Hussain met Kumaramangalam today.

The Indian delegation is led by Pradip Baijal, special secretary in the power ministry.

Hussain said: ''We have come here with an open mind to sell power to India.''

The talks are in continuation of the discussions held in Islamabad on November 25-26 last year.

The two sides are expected to discuss technical, financial and legal issues involved in the transfer of power. A broad agreement was reached at the November meeting to transfer power upto 500 mega-watts in the short run and 2,000 mwt in the long run.
