Equities gain on institutional support; Sensex up 45 points to 3353.98The Sensex touched the 3400-mark, but ended slightly lower as equities gained on buying support extended by foreign institutional investors and public financial institutions at the Bombay Stock Exchange today. The BSE-30 Sensitive Index opened at 3342.22, reached the day's high of 3400.07 and low of 3334.51 and ended at 3353.98, 44.83 points higher from the previous close of 3309.15. According to marketmen, operators purchased key pharma and infotech shares, while Hindalco, whose quarterly financial results were declared today, recorded nominal activity. The Hindalco scrip opened at Rs 502.50, touched a high of Rs 515, a low of Rs 499 and ended at Rs 502.25. Another bluechip, ACC, whose results were also announced, witnessed a sharp movement in its scrip price. The scrip crossed the Rs 1,200-mark today. It opened at Rs 1,135, touched a high of Rs 1,210, low of Rs 1,109 and ended at Rs 1,203, recording an intra-day movement of nearly Rs 95 today. Reflecting the uptrend, the BSE-100 index ended 19.82 points higher at 1480.18 from the previous closing of 1460.36. The BSE-200 index ended at 343.32, 4.95 points more than the last closing of 338.37. The dollex index ended at 134.52, a two points increase over the last close of 132.52. UNI
