Sensex touches 3500 as upswing continues in morning session

Stock prices kept up their pace in the Monday morning trading session on sustained buying support from foreign funds and speculators.

The steep reduction in diesel prices spurred positive feeling. Brisk buying was reported at several counters. It is learnt the Unit Trust of India sold some shares but this was not enough to check the upswing.

The 30-share BSE Sensex opened buoyantly at 3464, a 67-point rise over the weekend close of 3397. Earlier, it soared over 100 points to an intra-day high of 3506.

On the NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty is up 15 points at 1005. The index touched the 1,000 mark after nearly six months.

As at 14.30 hrs IST, among the pivotals on the BSE, ACC was trading at Rs 1261 (+ Rs 74), Tisco at Rs 133 (+ Rs 3), SBI at Rs 184 (+ Rs 2), ITC at Rs 871 (+ Rs 38), Hindalco at Rs 582 (+ 17) and Hindustan Lever at Rs 1803 (+ Rs 16).
