Nifty rises 39.90 points as pivotals shoot up
Pivotals shot up smartly at the National Stock Exchange on hectic all-round buying support, encouraged by the industry-friendly Union Budget for 1999-2000. The exchange witnessed the highest ever number of trades and traded quality today. Reflecting the buoyant sentiment in the market, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 39.90 points to 981.10 from the previous day's close of 941.20 points. The CNX Nifty Junior index shot up sharply by 93.90 points to 1773.45. Yesterday it had closed at 1679.55 points. The S&P CNX Defty also rose 32.65 points to close at 799. The S&P CNX 500 index moved up by 26.70 points to reach 687.40 while the CNX Midcap-200 appreciated by 24.66 points to close at 618.18 points. The total turnover on the exchange today was Rs29,774.4 million. The number of trades and the traded quality were also the highest since the inception of the NSE at 421,181 trades and 130.642 million shares. The debenture traded value stood at Rs2.334 million. In all, 668 securities firmed up, 291 declined and 89 remained unchanged while 123 securities hit their price bands. UNI
