New settlement sees moderate recovery; nifty up eight points to 957.65
Pivotals recovered moderately on fresh buying support by bull operators and institutional investors on the opening day of the current settlement at the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the firm trend, the S&P CNX Nifty improved by eight points to 957.65 points from 949.65 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior rose by 12.10 points to 1708.85 points and the S&P CNX Defty edged up by 4.55 points to 779.75 points. The S&P CNX 500 index moved up by 8.91 points to 669.70 points while the CNX Midcap 200 index firmed up by seven points to 603.62 points. The total turnover in 213,091 trades, involving 79.65 million shares, was Rs 15.62 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.80 million. In all 659 securities advanced, 335 declined, 90 remained unchanged while 98 securities hit their price bands today. The top S&P Nifty gainers were: Great Eastern Shipping Rs 22.05 (Rs 20.40), Arvind Mills Rs 42.40 (Rs 39.25), Cochin Refineries Rs 134.50 (Rs 124.50) and IPCL Rs 125.80 (Rs 117). The top losers were: Glaxo Rs 699 (Rs 759), Nestle Rs 483 (Rs 505.10), Ranbaxy Rs 379 (Rs 386), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 265.50 (Rs 270) and Castrol Rs 809.05 (Rs 818.80). Reliance registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.37 billion, followed by Pentafour Software Rs 2.26 billion, Satyam Computer Rs 1.62 billion, ITC Rs 1.25 billion, Silverline Rs 1.22 billion, Tata Tea Rs 831.4 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 398.1 million, SBI New and IPCL Rs 378 million each, HCL-HP Rs 338.7 million, Rolta Rs 280.7 million, IPCL Rs 252.8 million and MTNL Rs 242.2 million. The other actively traded counters were: L&T Rs 225.9 million, Square D Software Rs 205.3 million, Castrol Rs 197.8 million, Tisco Rs 193.1 million, Telco Rs 165.6 million, ACC Rs 160.4 million, NIIT Rs 144.9 million, Glaxo Rs 138.8 million, Digitial Equipment Rs 123.2 million, Infosys Technologies Rs 111.3 million, Global Telesystems Rs 108.2 million and Amara Raja Batteries Rs 93.4 million.
