Pivotals stage a moderate rally; Nifty up four points to 958.90
Pivotals flared up moderately on fresh buying support from bull operators and financial institutions on the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the firm note, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened lower at 952.55, finished 4.35 points higher at 958.90 points. The CNX Nifty Junior Index also moved up by 21 points to 1733 points while the S&P CNX Defty edged up by 2.80 points to 781.95 points. The S&P CNX 500 index improved by 5.70 points to 670.26 points and CNX Midcap 200 appreciated by 8.72 points to 603.20 points. The total turnover, involving 97.90 million shares in 302,935 trades, was Rs 21.35 billion. The turnover in debentures stood at Rs 7.45 million. Today, 584 securites advanced, 493 declined, 96 remained unchanged while 113 shares hit their price bands today. The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: IPCL which shot up by 8.03 per cent to Rs 93.55, M&M 8.02 per cent to Rs 231, Ranbaxy 7.15 per cent to Rs 412, ABB 6.69 per cent to Rs 574 and Colgate 5.23 per cent to Rs 181. The top losers were: East India Hotels down 5.13 per cent to Rs 223, Indian Rayon Rs 2.89 per cent to Rs 74, Hindalco 2.81 per cent to Rs 440.25, IFCI 2.68 per cent to Rs 12.70 and Grasim 2.10 per cent to Rs 151.50.
