Depressed sentiment wipes 20 points off Nifty; 916.50
Depressed sentiments continued and pivotals further declined on speculative selling pressure and lack of buying interest on the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the subdued sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty index dropped by 19.80 points to 916.50 points from 936.30 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior index fell by 22.35 points to 1627.35 points while S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 16 points at 747.95 points. The S&P CNX 500 index declined by 11.57 points to 638.44 points and CNX Midcap 200 index eased by 8.59 points to 566.78 points. The total turnover, involving 69.38 million shares in 243,316 trades, was Es 19.49 billion and the debentures traded value was Rs 3.41 million. Today, 284 securites gained, 701 declined while 100 remained unchanged while 59 securities hit their price bands today. The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: India Hotel which improved by 2.08 per cent to Rs 393, Great Eastern Shipping by 1.52 per cent increase to Rs 20, ITC by 0.73 per cent up to Rs 822.95, HDFC 0.63 per cent to Rs 2,380 and NIIT 0.40 per cent to Rs 2,239. The top losers were Ranbaxy 6.89 per cent decline to Rs 310.05, HPCL 6.31 per cent to Rs 190.70, HDFC Bank 5.96 per cent to Rs 51.25, ACC 5.94 per cent to Rs 950 and Infosys Technologies 5.69 per cent to Rs 4,670.
