Downtrend affects pivotals; Nifty slides nine points, 931.20
The downtrend continued and pivotals further lost ground on selling pressure on the last day of the current settlement on the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the subdued sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty index eased by 8.95 points to 931.20 points. The CNX Nifty Junior also slid by 30.80 points to 1631.50 points while the S&P CNX Defty moved down by 7.20 poins to 759.25 points. The S&P CNX 500 index declined by 10.04 points to 645.38 points and CNX Midcap 200 index depreciated by 9.28 points to 569.54 points. The total turnover, involving 83.68 million shares in 279,336 trades was Rs 20.67 billion and the debentures traded were worth Rs 9.31 million. The top five S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: ABB which improved by 5.97 per cent to Rs 521.90, East India Hotels 1.53 per cent to Rs 259.40, Cochin Refineries 1.47 per cent to Rs 145, L&T 1.38 per cent to Rs 180.55 and India Hotels 1.37 per cent to Rs 370. The top losers were: Tata Chemicals which declined by 4.71 per cent to Rs 72.90, Asian Paint 4.28 per cent to Rs 244, Grasim 3.42 per cent to Rs 155.50, Bank India 3.37 per cent to Rs 20.10 and Ranbaxy 3.24 per cent to Rs 299.
