Pivotals drift lower after early gains; Nifty down 18 points to 1291.85

Pivotals surrendered initial gains and ended lower on profit booking by bull operators and institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened higher at 1309.70 points, further rose to 1317.10 points and fell to the low of 1290.30 points before closing at 1291.85 points, losing 17.65 points or 1.34 per cent from its previous close of 1309.50 points.

CNX Nifty Junior also shed 14.70 points to 2347.50 from 2362.20 points, while S&P CNX Defty declined by 13.35 points to 1030.65 points from 1044 points.

S&P CNX 500 index dropped by 8.45 points to 915.70 points from 924.15 points and CNX Midcap 200 eased by 0.05 points to 827.95 points from 828 points.

NSE witnessed trading worth Rs 21.81 billion, involving 86.94 million shares in 341,112 trades. Turnover in debentures stood at Rs 1.49 million.

Today, 629 securities advanced, 460 declined, 84 remained unchanged while 136 securities hit their price bands today.
