Thomas Publishing's Indian arm to launch industrial info products

The US-based Thomas Publishing Company, the world's leading industrial publishing company, has anounced the launch of its operations in the Indian market.

Set up as a 100 per cent subsidiary, Thomas International Publishing Company India Private Limited or TIPCO India plans to address the Indian business community's growing need for comprehensive information on industrial products and services that can be used effectively to add value and gain competitive advantage.

The company has already appointed franchisees in over 12 cities including the four metros and will be present in over 20 cities by the year-end.

Announcing the launch of TIPCO's operations in India, John L Lindsey, president, Thomas International Publishing Company Inc said in a statement, "Our registers are used worldwide by over 80 per cent of Fortune 500 companies. In the United States alone, we are involved in transactions (buying products and services) of over $ 400 million a day. The Thomas Register of Indian Manufacturers or TRIM will be the first of our products in the Indian market which will provide information on more than 10,000 industrial products and services from around 30,000 manufacturers."

TRIM will be offered in print and CD-ROM versions and would also be accessible on the Internet. The company soon expects to offer expanded search capability to the Indian industrial market by encompassing suppliers from the US, South America, Europe and Asia in the register.

The India manufacturers would in turn gain valuable exposure to the international market. The future plans of the company include the launch of various innovative information products to serve the Indian industrial market.

The management is also considering the launch of engineering drawing CD-ROMs and e-commerce options under the TIPCO-India umbrella.
