Equities decline as operators book profits; Nifty slides a tad to 1323.30
Select equities declined moderately on profit-taking selling pressure at the National Stock Exchange today. The moderate to marginal fall in the few top infotech counters and select equities like ACC, ITC, Tata Tea, Reliance, Cadbury, Smithkline Beecham. And Nestle also pushed down the indices marginally at the bourse. Pharma scrips, however, not only remained unhurt from the profit-taking selling spree but rose smartly, with Ranbaxy touching a new high of Rs 1,012, gaining Rs 50 over the previous close at the NSE today. Mirroring the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1326.75 points, touched a day's high of 1345.85 points, a low of 1317.50 points before closing at 1323.30 points, showing a net loss of 3.10 points from the previous close of 1326.40 points. S&P CNX Nifty Junior ended lower by 0.14 points to 2288.40 points as against the previous close of 2291.60 points. Select infotech like Satyam, Pentafour Software, Infosys Technologies posted moderate decline on profit-bookings by operators, dealers said. S&P CNX-500 closed lower by 3.26 points to 914.87 points as against the previous close of 918.13 points.
