Royal Enfield launches 'Bike of the Next Millennium' for youth

Royal Enfield Motors, part of the Rs 9.7 billion Eicher Group, today introduced their latest mobike, the Machismo A-350, in Pune.

Priced at Rs 63,205 (ex-showroom in Pune), the Machismo, which is being introduced all over Maharashtra in the first stage, would be launched countrywide in a phased manner.

Positioned as the ''Bike of the Next Millennium'', the Machismo is power by an electronic 4-stroke engine, designed alongwith AVL of Austria, and meets the stringent April 2000 emission norms, Royal Enfield Motor managing director P K Purang said.

The company, Purang said, seeks to target the new power bikes towards the affluent urban youth who are looking at a ''total motorcycling experience''.

The company's new plant in Jaipur where an investment of Rs 400 million has been made, has a capacity to produce 24,000 bikes annually, while the total capacity including that of the Tiruvottiyur plant in Madras is 50,000, Purang said.

The new bike has less than five per cent import content.

The company is also testing the prototype of a new engine for the 500 cc Bullets, he said.

The company, which had a turnover of Rs 1.35 billion during 1998-99, has set a target of Rs 1.75 billion during the current financial year and the new bike would add to it, Purang said.
