National movement against western consumerism from May 1The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat will launch a country-wide consumer movement from May 1 to create awareness among consumers about their rights and caution them against the invasion of western consumerism. The Panchayat said the drive will continue until October 2, followed by the organisation's silver jubilee conference to be held in New Delhi on December 25 and 26. These decisions were taken recently at the Panchayat's national executive committee meeting, held at Hardwar, under the chairmanship of its president, Bajranglal Gupta. The consumer movement will commence at Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 1 with the inauguration of ''Grahak Mela'' by Panchayat general secretary Bindu Madhav Joshi. The Panchayat had been set up in 1974, drawing inspiration from Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan and veteran jurist Muhammed Careem Chhagla. UNI |
