Indian Railways to buy high-speed German coachesThe Indian Railways will import 24 high-speed coaches from Germany over the next one-and-a-half years. They will also manufacture the coaches, capable of running at speeds of up to 160kmph, in collaboration with a German firm. Rail Coach Factory general manager V P Ojha yesterday said the German firm LHB is manufacturing these coaches for the railways. He said the RCF has entered into collaboration with LHB to produce the high-speed coaches. To this end engineers from RCF and LHB have exchanged visits. "Technology transfer is underway to produce such coaches at the RCF," he added. Regarding the RCF's performance since inception in 1987, he said the factory had rolled out more than 8,500 coaches, about 30 per cent of the total number of coaches with the railways.
