Pivotals continue slide; Nifty down ten points to 1020.35

The market sentiment remained depressed as prices of pivotals witnessed a gradual decline at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the mixed trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1033.00 points, touched the day's high of 1036.95 points, fell to the day's low of 1015.30 points before closing at 1020.35 points, showing a net loss of 10.70 points from the previous close of 1031.05 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior lost by 29.45 points to 1933.25 points from the previous close of 1962.70 points.

The S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 8.25 points to 828.75 points from the previous close of 837.00 points.

The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap-200 closed lower by 7.71 and 8.90 points to 714.70 and 650.56 points as against the previous close of 722.41 and 659.58 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 16.01 billion from a trading in 48.60 million shares in 217,563 trades.

Debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.83 million. Today, 280 securities advanced, 703 declined, 90 remained unchanged while 44 securities hit their price bands.

Pentafour Software topped the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 3.02 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 2.61 billion, Silverline Rs 1.61 billion, ITC Rs 991.8 billion and Rolta Rs 828.3 million.

Other actively traded counters were Digital Equipment (Rs 634.4 million), Reliance (Rs 530..8 million), HCL-HP (Rs 516.7 million), SBI (Rs 406 million), Infosys Technologies (Rs 390.8 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 338.2 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 259.5 million), Tata Tea (Rs 208.4 million), L&T (Rs 192.7 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 19.15 million), NIIT (Rs 176.6 million), BHEL (Rs 175.2 million), Square D Software (Rs 153 million), ACC (Rs 151.5 million), Castrol (Rs 130 million), Telco (Rs 111.5 million), Glaxo (Rs 105.3 million), Global Telesystems (Rs 104.2 million), BPL (Rs 103.4 million) and Nestle (Rs 100.5 million).

The gainers were East India Hotel Rs 205 (Rs 198), Cipla Rs 1503.75 (Rs 1454), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 289 (Rs 280.35). The losers were Indian Rayon Rs 81.20 (Rs 84.55), MTNL Rs 165.00 (Rs 170.60), Procter and Gamble Rs 920 (Rs 950.50), ABB Rs 374.00 (Rs 385.90) and Telco Rs 150 (Rs 154.50).
