Nifty down by 8 points

Trading remained depressed as prices of pivotals fluctuated in a narrow range and witnessed a marginal decline, following heavy selling pressure by foreign and domestic institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange.

Reflecting the bearish phase, the S P CNX Nifty index opened at 910.00 (the day's high), fell to touch a low of 899.95 and closed at 901.65 points, showing a net loss of 8.45 points against the previous close of 910.10 points.

The CNX Nifty junior closed slightly higher by 2.75 points to 1480.40 points from Thursday's 1477.65 points.

The S P CNX Defty index declined by 6.85 points to 734.70 points against the previous close of 741.55 points.

The S P CNX 500 closed lower by 3.25 points, to 612.81 points against the previous close of 616.06 points.

The CNX Midcap 200 however gained by 3.73 points, to 533.63 points against the previous close of 529.90 points.

The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 13.74 billion.

The turnover on debentures was Rs 889,000.

About 52.3 million shares changed hands, of which 502 securities advanced, 453 declined and 115 held steady.
