Pivotals suffer marginal setback; Nifty slides over three points, 841.60

Pivotals suffered a marginal setback on the National Stock Exchange following speculative selling pressure from local operators and institutional investors on the last day of trading settlement today.

Reflecting the trend, S&P CNX Nifty opened on a positive note at 845.45 points, touched the day's high of 848.25 points, fell to the day's low of 835.70 points before closing at 841.60 points, showing a net loss of 3.65 points over the previous close of 845.25 points. The CNX Nifty Junior declined by 20.85 points to 1455.95 points from the previous close of 1476.80 points.

S&P CNX Defty finished lower by 2.90 points at 690.15 while the S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap closed lower by 1.87 and 4.35 points to 584.08 and 521.51 points from the previous close of 585.95 and 525.86 points respectively.

The total turnover was Rs 15.25 billion from 60.53 million shares and in 204,434 traded. Debentures traded value was Rs 7.49 million.

Nearly 620 scrips declined, 409 advanced and 70 remained unchanged. And 60 securities hit their price bands today.

The most actively traded scrips of the day were Satyam Computers Rs 2.84 billion, ITC Rs 2.39 billion, Pentafour Software Rs 1.81 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 1.34 billion and Reliance Rs 942.5 billion.

Other actively traded scrips were State Bank of India (Rs 815 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 502.2 million), Telco (Rs 466.5 million), HCL-HP (Rs 417.3 million), Castrol (Rs 383.3 million), ACC (Rs 232.9 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 202.8 million), MTNL (Rs 201.8 million), Tisco (Rs 144.7 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 141.6 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 136 million), L&T (Rs 134 million), Tata Tea (Rs 133.4 million), BHEL (Rs 99.9 million), Sterlite (Rs 87 million), BFL Software (Rs 85.8 million), ICICI (Rs 81.7 million), Bata India (Rs 80 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 73.9 million) and Silverline (Rs 72 million).

The top five S&P CNX Nifty gainers were Reliance Capital Rs 40.40 (Rs 38.05), Telco Rs 114.80 (Rs 107.60), Arvind Mills (Rs 34.40 (Rs 32.80), GE Shipping Rs 21.95 (Rs 21.10) and IPCL Rs 58.10 (Rs 56.30). Among the losers were Colgate Rs 166.20 (Rs 178.10), Ranbaxy Rs 552.60 (Rs 585.95), ICICI Rs 40.70 (Rs 43.10), HDFC Bank Rs 52.80 (Rs 55.20) and M&M Rs 155.90 (Rs 161.25).

The wholesale debt market of the NSE witnessed trades worth Rs 3.36 billion.
