Equities fall after early gain; Nifty slides to 811.60The National Stock Exchange today witnessed a mixed trend as the equities opening on a buoyant note and declined towards the mid session before firming up towards the end of the trading session. The S&P CNC Nifty opened at 809.30 points, touched the day's high of 825.20 points and a low of 805.70 points and ended at 811.60 points, losing 2.90 points. The CNX Nifty Junior also dipped by 24.30 points to close at 1396.40 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 2.35 points to 665.00. S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap 200 too drifted by 4.09 and 8.48 points to close at 561.77 and 498.18. The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 1168 billione from 44.60 million shares in 148,904 trades. A total of 548 scrips advanced, 292 declined and 91 unchanged. A total of 53 securities hit their price bands. ITC recorded the highest turnover of Rs 2.83 billion followed by Zee Telefilms (Rs 1.39 billion), Satyam Computers (Rs 1.30 billion), Reliance (Rs 789 million) and SBI New (Rs 721.5 million). Others recording a high volume included Castrol, Hindustan Lever, HCL-HP, ACC, Dr Reddy's, Infosys Tech and Telco. The top gainers were G E Shipping, Telco, Reliance, HDFC Bank and Bank of India. The top losers were ACC, Hindustan Lever, M&M, Tisco and Colgate.
