Pivotals decline on settlement's last day; Nifty down 19 points, 816.75
Pivotals further declined on selling pressure from foreign institutional investors and bull operators on the last day of the current settlement on the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty index slid by 19.05 points to 816.75 points from 835.80 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior index sunk by 48.20 points to 1409.70 points from 1457.90 points while the S&P CNX Defty moved down by 15.90 points to 668.40 points from 684.30 points. The S&P CNX 500 Index declined by 12.24 points to 567.39 points from 579.63 points and CNX Midcap 200 index dipped by 14.89 points to 501.67 points from 516.56 points. The total turnover, involving Rs 70.38 worth of shares in 223,485 trades, was Rs 17.06 billion and the debentures traded value was Rs 26.73 million. FIIs today unloaded shares worth Rs 621.6 million against their lower purchase worth Rs 188.2 million taking their total net sales to Rs 433.4 million. However, domestic institutions made a net purchase of Rs 201.5 million today. ICICI recorded the highest gain of 6.95 per cent to Rs 45, followed by MTNL 1.30 per cent to Rs 187.25, IFCI 0.84 per cent to Rs 18, IPCL 0.76 per cent to Rs 53.25 and ABB 0.54 per cent to Rs 527.45. Grasim suffered the highest lose of 7.68 per cent loss to Rs 141.80, followed by NIIT by 7.43 per cent to Rs 1199.75, East India Hotels 7.04 per cent to Rs 207.95, IDBI 6.81 per cent to Rs 36.95 and M&M 6.67 per cent to Rs 147. Satyam Computers registered the highest turnover of Rs 3.63 billion, followed by ITC (Rs 3.14 billion), Zee Telefilms (Rs 1.41 billion), SBI (Rs 1.41 billion), Pentasoft Software (Rs 1.02 billion) and Reliance (Rs 1.01 billion). The other actively traded counters were: Dr Reddy's (Rs 392.8 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 358.9 million), HCL-HP (Rs 335.4 million), L&T (Rs 264.7 million), ACC (Rs 238.1 million), BFL Software (Rs 234.7 million), BHEL (Rs 225 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 190 million), Castrol (Rs 183.4 million), MTNL (Rs 169.9 million), NIIT (166.3 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 150.5 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 112.2 million), Telco (Rs 111.3 million), Tata Tea (Rs 108.8 million) and ICICI (Rs 102.5 million).
