Infotech shares, pivotals flare up on heavy FII buying; Sensex spurts 21 points, past 3000Pivotals flared up further at the Bombay Stock Exchange following good buying support from foreign institutional investors, domestic institutional investors and local operators today. According to market sources, the FIIs have made purchases in the scrips like Pentafour Software, Satyam Computers, MTNL, BHEL, ITC and Telco. Banking and financial institutions' scrips like ICICI, State Bank of India, Corporation Bank and HDFC Bank also reported remarkable gains, sources said. Reflecting the firm trend, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index opened at 2992.47 points, touched the day's high of 3005.29 points, fell to the day's low of 2963.58 points, before closing at 3004.67 points, showing a net gain of 21 points over the previous close of 2983.67 points. The BSE-100 index gained by 10.95 points to 1335.51 points from the previous close of 1324.56 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices closed higher by 2.31 and 0.85 points to 308.22 and 121.34 points against the previous close of 305.91 and 120.49 points respectively. Among the gainers, BHEL moved up by Rs 14.60 to Rs 276.50, Cadbury's Rs 7 to Rs 377, Colgate Rs 6.80 to Rs 180.20, Grasim Rs 7.10 to Rs 163, Indian Hotels Rs 10 to Rs 430.75, Infosys Tech Rs 24.50 to Rs 2430.75, ITC Rs 3.75 to Rs 721.50, Pentafour Software Rs 13.50 to Rs 594.00, SBI Rs 3.80 to Rs 167.80, Telco Rs 0.60 to Rs 134.40. Among the losers, Bajaj Auto dropped by Rs 8.25 to Rs 570.25, Dr Reddy's Rs 1.25 to Rs 453.50, Hero Honda Rs 4 to Rs 553, Hindustan Lever Rs 6 to Rs 1643.50, Hindalco Rs 3.25 to Rs 516.75. Total purchases by the FIIs on the BSE stood at Rs 180 million against their total sales of Rs 300 million registering net sale of Rs 120 million. The total purchases by domestic institutional investors were Rs 290 million against sales worth Rs 420 million, thus reporting a net sales by them of worth Rs 130 million. Total turnover on the BSE reported during the day was Rs 11.63 billion. Pentafour Software topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 1.54 billion, followed by ITC Rs 1.53 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 1.06 billion, SBI Rs 1.01 billion and Satyam Computers Rs 982.4 million. Other actively traded scrips were Castrol (Rs 287.7 million), BHEL (Rs 275.3 million), Telco (Rs 267.5 million), Tata Tea (Rs 244.7 million), L&T (Rs 202.9 million), ACC (Rs 192.9 million), ICICI Limited (Rs 164.1 million), MTNL (Rs 163.3 million) and Digital Equipment (Rs 130.6 million).
