Exploit India's biodiversity in a scientific way, M M Joshi tells industryHuman Resources Development Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has asked the Indian industry to put to better use the technologies generated in our national laboratories and academic institutions. ''We are rich in biodiversity and it should not be over exploited as feed stock for biotechnology industry. It should be put to use in a planned scientific manner,'' he said inaugurating an international symposium on ''Biotech Industry -- A Challenge for 2005 AD'' in New Delhi on Wednesday. He said biotechnology industry could flourish in India provided ndigenous capabilities are allowed to prosper. Indian biotechnology industry has a bright future and can contribute a lot to the economic progress of the country as we enter the next century, he said. He suggested that the key objective of the biotech industry should be to develop widely applicable, easily scaled up, re-producible and cost effective processes and products. This will require in practice, satisfying a large number of technical and important commercial and legislative criteria to achieve commercial success, he said. UNI |
