Nifty drops by 15.15 points

Pivotals declined moderately on selling pressure by foreign institutional investors as well as local operators today following news of escalated tensions between India and Pakistan as a fallout of last week's nuclear tests.

Mirroring the downtrend, the NSE-50 index fell down by 15.15 points to 1126.15 points as against 1141.30 points the previous day.

The Dollar NSE-50 index also diped by 12.80 points to 962.45 points as compared to 975.25 points of last working day. The Midcap index lowered by 40.85 points to 1634.35 points as against 1675.20 points the previous day.

The total turnover in 78 million scrips on 263,832 trades was Rs 21.7 million, while 302 securities firmed up, 731 declined while 89 remained unchanged today.

Among the securities which witnessed hectic activity, Satyam Comp registered the highest turnover of Rs 5.1 billion, followed by ITC Rs 3.8 billion, Reliance Rs 1.6 billion, Pentsfware Rs 1.1 billion, ACC Rs 1 billion, SBI-N Rs 896.7 million, Hind Lever Rs 769.8 million, Infosys Tech Rs 615.2 million, Zee Tele Rs 493.4 million, BFL Software Rs 378.4 million, Silverline Rs 368.1 million, Tisco Rs 312.5 million, Nestle Rs 290.2 million.

The other actively traded counters included BPL Rs 270.5 million, LML Rs 233.2 million, Glaxo Rs 203.2 million, Tata Tea Rs 180 million, Videocon Int Rs 178.2 million, Soft Sol Int Rs 173.3 million, Sqrd Sfware Rs 166.2 million, Castrol 160.1 million, Bajaj Auto 158.7 million, Digital Equip 155.2 million, ICICI Rs 147.2 million and Telco Rs 112.8 million.

Glaxo topped the gainers list with 1.52 per cent increase, followed by Hind Lever 0.60 per cent and Bajaj Auto 0.14 per cent while Tata Chem was the top losers with 5.89 per cent, followed by Ashok Leyl 4.79 per cent, GE Shipping 4.21 per cent, Indo Gulf 4.19 per cent and Thermax 3.89 per cent.
