Nifty up a mere 1.95 pointsPivotals after moving in a narrow range today firmed up marginally at close with speculative buying support by local operators on the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the upward trend, the NSE-50 index gained 1.95 points to 1121.75 points as against 1119.80 points the previous day. The Dollar NSE-50 index also improved by 2 points to 959.75 points as compared to 957.75 points on the last working day. The Midcap index increased by 27.90 points to 1620.55 points over its last close of 1592.65 points. The total turnover in 64.2 million securities on 201,906 trades was Rs 15.7 billion while 122 securities have hit their price bands today, 606 scrips gained, 438 lost while 113 remained unchanged today. ITC recorded the highest turnover of Rs 299.85 million, followed by Satyam Comp Rs 1.8 billion, ACC 1.6 billion, SBI-N Rs 1 billion, Reliance Rs 796.1 million, Pentafour Software Rs 591.9 million, Tisco Rs 443.7 million, Tata Tea Rs 435.4 million, BPL Rs 334 million, Hind Lever Rs 316.7 million, Videocon Int Rs 306 million, L and T Rs 270.4 million, BFL Software Rs 259.5 million. The other actively traded counters were Castrol Rs 257.6 million, Infosys Tech Rs 252.6 million, Zee Tele Rs 240.9 million, Sterlite Rs 240.4 million, Cadbury Rs 232.4 million, Telco Rs 223.4 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 145.9 million, Silverline Rs 139.1 million, IDBI Rs 137 million, IOC Rs 121.7 million, Nestle Rs 110.1 million and MTNL Rs 87.3 million. Arvind Mills topped in the gainers list with 7.80 per cent, followed by Thermax 7.22 per cent, Ashok Ley 5.76 per cent, BHEL 3.10 per cent and Grasim 2.36 per cent while the losers were ABB figured first with 4.50 per cent lose, followed HPCL 3.08 per cent, M&M 3.06 per cent, Tata Power 2.68 per cent and MTNL 2 per cent.
