BSE fluctuates in narrow range, dips 8.96 pts overall

Equity prices fluctuated in a narrow range following profit-bookings by both local institutions and common investors on the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

Foreign Institutional Investors continued with their buying interest, purchasing good amount of the heavyweight State Bank of India and ITC shares. However, domestic institutions, including Unit Trust of India, booked profits at higher levels.

Being the last day of current settlement at the National Stock Exchange, some bull operators began squaring up their positions during the intra-day trading, pushing the Sensex below the 3800 mark.

Mirroring the down trend, the BSE Sensitive Index opened high at 3810.15 points, touched the day's high of 3830.97 points and its low of 3783.99 points before closing at 3798.25 points, suffering a net loss of 8.96 points as against the previous close of 3807.21 points.

The total turnover on the screen-based trading system was Rs 11.48 billion. Out of 6967 scrips, 1651 were traded on the BOLT system.

ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 2.71 billion followed by Reliance with Rs 1.97 billion, SBI (Rs 1.27 billion), Tata Tea (Rs 907.5 million, Bajaj Auto (Rs 460.2 million), Tisco (Rs 371.3 million), Hind Lever (Rs 358.2 million), Sterlite (P) (325.3 million), ACC (Rs 233.4 million), Telco (Rs 171.1 million), Castrol Ind (Rs 163.4 million), Ranbaxy Labs (Rs 140.8 million), ICICI Limited (Rs 117.6 million), Corporate (Rs 109.2 million) and MTNL (Rs 107.7 million) in specified counters.

Good trading was observed at Aptech Limited (Rs 16 million), BEL Sofware (Rs 14.7 million), KEC Enter (Rs 13.3 million), Reliance Petr (Rs 11.7 million), Raasi Cement (Rs 11.7 million), Indo Rama Syn (Rs 7.3 million) and Cipla Limited (Rs 6.8 million) at the 'B1' counters.
